- A desription, on a print of the image shown here, states: The Lake Ontario schooner "W. R. Taylor’ was built in 1877 at Port Milford in the Township of South Marysburgh, Prince Edward County. Although built for the timber trade, she also carried coal or grain. In 1889 she ran ashore in Lake Michigan, but was salvaged, repaired, and altered to increase her capacity; she was also fitted with square loading ports in the stern for loading oak timbers. These were hauled on board by a newly installed donkey engine, the boiler of which can be seen in the drawing. In 1892 she was owned by the Dunn family of Kingston, who changed her name to "Stuart H. Dunn". At one time her second mate was C.H.J. Snider, who later became the best known marine historian of the Great Lakes. This sketch by Barbara Carson shows her being towed out of Toronto harbour by the tug "Nellie Bly"; Toronto port regulations required ships to be towed whether the wind was favourable or not.
