Shipbuilding History

Henry B. Nevins, yacht builders, City Island, NY

Most recent update: 14 May 2023.

Henry B. Nevins (1878-1950) started his career at Gas Engine and Power Company & Charles L. Seabury Company (later Consolidated Shipbuilding) in Morris Heights. In 1907, he bought the Hansen Boatyard at the foot of Winter Street, on City Island, later adding the adjoining Byles yard.  Nevins died in 1950, after a fall in his yard in 1949, and his widow sold the yard in 1954. It then operated as Nevins Yacht Yard until it folded again in 1962. The site is now occupied by City Island's PS 175.
