[ Editor's note: Snider uses the term 'corposant' (often 'corpusant') correctly, although it is rarely employed today. A corposant is an electrical discharge giving rise to a corona of ionization in the surrounding atmosphere – often referred to as Saint Elmo's fire by sailors. Herman Melville writes in Moby Dick: "I said the corpusants have mercy on us all; and I hope they will, still. But do they only have mercy on long faces? – have they no bowels for a laugh?" ]
